Window Locking Drives

D+H FRA and VLD locking drives provide powered operation of compatible multipoint window locking systems.

Through D+H BSY+ communication, the locking drive synchronises with compatible D+H chain drives so the multipoint lock is released before the sash opens. During closing, the lock does not re-engage until the opening drive confirms that the sash is fully closed.

DDS 54 Door Drive

The D+H DDS 54 is a dedicated actuator for compatible automated door-opening applications.

Selection depends on the door arrangement, required movement, operating force, mounting position, control sequence, access requirements and safety measures applying to the complete automated door system.

SHD 54 Drive

The D+H SHD 54 provides a specialist operating solution for compatible heavy-duty window, flap and building-opening applications.

SDS Skylight Drives

D+H SDS 2 and SDS 3 drives are purpose-designed for compatible skylight and roof-opening applications.

Automated multipoint window locking

FRA and VLD drives are primarily used to automate compatible multipoint window locking systems.

A multipoint system uses an internal gearbox, connecting rods or sliding locking bar to operate several locking points around the sash perimeter. These may include locking cams, rollers, bolts, shoot bolts or other compatible hardware.

Powered locking allows all locking points to be released and secured automatically as part of the complete window-opening sequence.

BSY+ locking and opening sequence

D+H BSY+ communication coordinates the locking drive with compatible D+H chain drives and other opening actuators.

  1. An open command is issued to the window system.
  2. The FRA or VLD drive releases the multipoint locking hardware.
  3. The locking drive confirms that the sash is unlocked.
  4. The D+H chain drive is then permitted to open the window.
  5. When a close command is issued, the chain drive closes the sash first.
  6. The locking drive waits for confirmation that the sash is fully closed.
  7. Only after receiving that confirmation does the locking drive re-engage the multipoint lock.

This sequence prevents the opening drive from attempting to move a locked sash and prevents the locking hardware from engaging before the window has reached its fully closed position.

Why powered multipoint locking may be required

Perimeter locking

Several locking points can be operated automatically around the sash perimeter rather than relying on the primary opening actuator alone.

Sash compression

Compatible multipoint hardware can provide consistent compression of the sash against perimeter seals after the window has closed.

Coordinated operation

BSY+ communication provides the correct unlock-open-close-lock sequence with compatible D+H opening drives.

Concealed hardware

FRA and VLD drives can operate compatible internal gearboxes, connecting rods and sliding locking bars incorporated into the window system.
