Overview
D+H LAH 65 louvre drives are available from EBSA as special-order replacement products for compatible existing HAHN louvre installations.
EBSA works with HAHN to provide technical support and replacement D+H OEM louvre drives for existing projects. This includes identifying installed LAH models, confirming the applicable replacement, programming and addressing compatible BSY+ drives, carrying out reference runs, recommissioning synchronised drive groups and providing ongoing maintenance support.
This page is intended for building owners, facilities managers, service contractors and consultants dealing with installed HAHN louvre systems using D+H LAH drives. EBSA is not promoting LAH 65 as a general new-project louvre solution.
The current replacement range includes:
- LAH 65-BSY+ — 24 V DC synchronised louvre drive.
- LAH 65-K-BSY+ — 230 V AC synchronised louvre drive.
These products may provide the replacement pathway for selected installations using current or historic LAH references, including LAH 61, LAH 62, LAH 63 and LAH 64, subject to review of the complete existing system.
Special-order replacement support
LAH 65 drives are supplied on a special-order basis for compatible existing projects.
Before ordering, EBSA reviews:
- The exact installed LAH model reference.
- The number of drives operating each louvre assembly.
- The existing master and slave arrangement.
- The drive voltage.
- The controller or control-panel model.
- The existing programming and addressing.
- The louvre type and mechanical condition.
- The actuator mounting and available fixing points.
- The field wiring and plug arrangement.
- The access available for replacement and commissioning.
A replacement should not be selected from the model number alone where the existing system includes synchronised drives, altered programming or modified controls.
EBSA support for existing HAHN louvre systems
EBSA works with HAHN to support compatible existing louvre installations using D+H LAH drive technology.
Support may include:
- Identification of installed HAHN louvre and D+H drive configurations.
- Special-order supply of applicable D+H OEM replacement drives.
- Review of legacy LAH 61, LAH 62, LAH 63 and LAH 64 installations.
- Selection of LAH 65-BSY+ or LAH 65-K-BSY+ replacements where applicable.
- D+H SCS programming and drive addressing.
- Master and slave configuration for BSY+ synchronised groups.

The LAH 65-K-BSY+ uses the same synchronised master-and-slave concept as the 24 V DC version, but operates from 230 V AC.
Selection must be based on the installed system voltage and wiring. A 24 V DC drive and a 230 V AC drive are not interchangeable without reviewing the complete electrical and control arrangement.
Replacement support for legacy LAH models
EBSA can review replacement requirements for selected legacy installations carrying model references such as:
- LAH 61
- LAH 62
- LAH 63
- LAH 64
The current LAH 65 range may provide the appropriate replacement pathway, but this must be confirmed against the original voltage, synchronisation, mounting, control system and mechanical arrangement.
Older installations may have:
- Different drive addressing.
- Different master and slave configurations.
- Modified control panels.
- Non-standard field wiring.
- Reprogrammed SCS parameters.
- Different mounting plates or actuator covers.
- Mechanical resistance caused by wear within the louvre system.
EBSA can review these factors before the replacement drive is ordered.
BSY+ synchronised operation
LAH 65-BSY+ and LAH 65-K-BSY+ drives use D+H BSY+ synchronisation.
A synchronised group can include up to four compatible drives communicating through a bus. Each drive has an individual address.
The final drive in the synchronised group acts as the master and controls the remaining slave drives. The system compensates for differences in force and position so the louvre arrangement operates as one coordinated set.
Where one drive fails or shuts down, the complete group is stopped rather than allowing the remaining drives to continue out of sequence.
Master and slave addressing
The factory addressing visible on an installed drive may not reflect its current system role if the drives have previously been reconfigured using D+H SCS software.
Before replacing a drive, EBSA should confirm:
- The total number of drives in the group.
- Which drive is currently configured as master.
- The address assigned to each slave.
- Whether the system has been modified from the original factory arrangement.
- Whether tandem or grouped operation has been programmed.
Assuming the address from the actuator label alone may result in incorrect replacement programming.
Programming and reference run
LAH 65 drives require project-specific setup when first commissioned and following replacement.
A reference run, also described as zeroing or null balance, must be carried out after a replacement drive is installed. During this process, the drive establishes the closed position as its reference point.
Depending on the installed arrangement, setup may require:
- D+H SCS software.
- The applicable D+H bus interface.
- A MAG 502 programming magnet.
- Confirmation of drive addressing.
- Individual zeroing of each drive in a synchronised group.
- Verification of closing-edge protection settings.
- Operational testing of the complete louvre assembly.
EBSA has the D+H programming capability required to configure and recommission compatible LAH 65 replacement systems.
Closing-edge protection
LAH 65 drives include programmable closing-edge protection functions.
During closing, the drive can respond to an overload by reopening and attempting to close again. If closing remains obstructed after the programmed repeat attempts, the drive remains stopped.
Closing speed is also reduced through the final closing range.
This function does not remove the need to assess crushing and trapping risks across the complete louvre installation. Secondary closing edges and other parts of the louvre assembly may still develop significant forces.
Mechanical inspection before replacement
A failed LAH drive may be the result of actuator age, electrical faults, altered programming or mechanical resistance within the louvre system.
Before fitting a replacement drive, the installation should be checked for:
- Binding within the louvre mechanism.
- Damaged or worn pivots.
- Misaligned louvre blades.
- Excessive seal resistance.
- Obstructions within the opening.
- Loose or damaged mounting components.
- Water ingress or corrosion.
- Damaged cables, plugs or terminals.
- Controller faults or incorrect control signals.
Replacing the actuator without correcting excessive mechanical resistance can lead to repeat drive failure.
24 V DC or 230 V AC replacement selection
The correct replacement voltage must match the existing system.
The 24 V DC LAH 65-BSY+ may be associated with:
- Natural ventilation control panels.
- Smoke control panels.
- Battery-backed operating systems.
- Low-voltage field wiring.
- Project-specific control interfaces.
The 230 V AC LAH 65-K-BSY+ may be associated with:
- Mains-powered drive circuits.
- Compatible synchronised 230 V control arrangements.
- Project-specific smoke control or ventilation systems.
Changing the system voltage is not part of a standard like-for-like replacement and would require a complete electrical and control review.
Natural ventilation and smoke control
LAH 65 drives may be used within compatible daily ventilation and smoke control systems.
For an existing smoke control installation, replacement work should review:
- The original system design.
- The installed control panel.
- The fire alarm interface.
- The drive supply voltage.
- The field cabling.
- The synchronisation arrangement.
- The required opening position.
- The commissioning and testing requirements.
The replacement actuator should be treated as one part of the complete installed smoke control or ventilation system.
Information required for replacement identification
Provide the following information when requesting LAH replacement support:
- Clear photograph of the complete actuator.
- Photograph of the model and address labels.
- Existing model reference.
- Number of drives on the louvre assembly.
- Photographs of each installed drive.
- Existing controller or control-panel model.

Installation and commissioning
LAH 65 replacement work should be carried out as a coordinated installation and commissioning process.
The drive must not be operated without the compatible louvre assembly connected, as this may damage the actuator.
Following replacement, the work should include:
- Confirmation of mechanical installation.
- Electrical connection.
- Address and role confirmation.
- Reference run and zeroing.
- Programming where required.
- Synchronisation testing.
- Full open and close testing.
- Closing-edge protection testing.
- Control-panel and interface testing.
- Recording of the installed replacement model and settings.
Maintenance and service support

What is the difference between LAH 65-BSY+ and LAH 65-K-BSY+?
LAH 65-BSY+ operates at 24 V DC. LAH 65-K-BSY+ operates at 230 V AC.
Both use D+H BSY+ synchronisation and can form part of a synchronised group of up to four compatible drives.
Can LAH 65 replace LAH 61, LAH 62, LAH 63 or LAH 64?
It may provide the current replacement pathway for selected legacy installations.
The exact replacement must be confirmed against the original drive model, voltage, programming, synchronisation, controller, mounting and louvre mechanism.
Can I replace only one drive in a synchronised group?
Potentially, but the complete group should be reviewed first.
The replacement must be addressed, programmed, zeroed and tested so it operates correctly with the remaining master or slave drives.
Does a replacement drive require programming?
Yes, depending on the installed arrangement.
The drive may require SCS programming, address confirmation, group configuration and a reference run following installation.
What is a reference run?
A reference run establishes the closed position as the drive’s zero point.
It is required during initial commissioning and after replacement of a drive.
Can EBSA program LAH 65 drives?
Yes. EBSA can program, address, synchronise and recommission compatible LAH 65 replacement systems using the applicable D+H tools and system information.
Can LAH 65 drives be used for smoke control?
Yes, within compatible existing systems designed for smoke extraction or smoke control operation.
The complete installed system, including the louvre, drive, controller, fire interface, field wiring and commissioning requirements, must be reviewed.
Why does the louvre mechanism need to be inspected?
Mechanical resistance, binding, damaged pivots, misalignment or seal friction can overload the drive.
Correcting the underlying mechanical issue helps prevent repeat failure of the replacement actuator.
Can EBSA support a HAHN louvre system supplied by another company?
Yes. EBSA works with HAHN to provide support and special-order replacement D+H louvre drives for compatible existing HAHN installations, including systems originally supplied by others.
