D+H CDP chain drives are high-capacity commercial window actuators for large façade windows, roof windows, skylights and other heavy-duty openings.

The CDP range sits at the upper end of D+H chain-drive capability. Single-chain CDP models provide up to 1500 N pressure force, while CDP-TW twin-chain models provide up to 3000 N pressure force through two chain connection points.

CDP drives are physically substantial actuators with heavy-duty internal components, large chain systems and robust mounting hardware. The sash brackets and frame brackets are engineered to transfer very high loads into the window structure, with stainless steel bracket components up to 6 mm thick depending on the selected arrangement.

Single-chain and twin-chain CDP drives

CDP 1500 models use one heavy-duty chain connection point and provide up to 1500 N pressure force and 1000 N tensile force.

CDP-TW 3000 models use two chain connection points from one drive assembly. The twin-chain arrangement provides up to 3000 N combined pressure force and 2000 N combined tensile force while distributing the drive load across two points on the sash.

The correct arrangement depends on the sash width, weight, stiffness, opening geometry, available fixing points and how the load should be transferred into the window frame.

Heavy-duty construction and load transfer

CDP is not an oversized version of a standard ventilation drive. It is a purpose-built heavy-duty actuator intended for windows and openings with exceptional force, stroke and structural requirements.

The drive body, chains, sash brackets and frame brackets are all substantial components. Bracket arrangements may incorporate stainless steel plates up to 6 mm thick to transfer the actuator loads into the sash and supporting frame.

The window system must be engineered to resist the drive forces. Aluminium profiles, steel reinforcement, corner joints, glazing support, brackets and fasteners must form a continuous and adequately designed load path.

Applying a high-capacity drive to an inadequately reinforced sash or frame can result in distortion or structural damage to the window system before the drive reaches its available force.

Drive and control system selection

The CDP drive provides the mechanical opening and closing movement, while the selected controller determines how the window responds to switches, sensors, timers, BMS commands or smoke control signals.

BSY+ technology synchronises compatible drives or internal drive elements so that they operate as a coordinated system. This is particularly important where high forces are applied through multiple connection points or multiple actuators.

The control panel and field cabling must be sized for the selected drive configuration, voltage, current demand, cable length and number of drives operating together.

For applications requiring automated ventilation, rain control, temperature control, feedback, programmed logic or smoke control functions, the drive and controller should be selected as one coordinated system.

Bracket and structural coordination

The CDP bracket arrangement must be designed as part of the window system rather than selected after the window has been fabricated.

The sash bracket transfers the chain force into the opening sash, while the frame brackets secure the actuator to the supporting frame or structure. Both sides of this connection require adequate material thickness, reinforcement, fasteners and edge distances.

What is BSY+ synchronisation?

BSY+ coordinates compatible drive elements so that they move together and share the applied load.

This is particularly important on CDP installations because uneven movement at these force levels could place substantial twisting or racking loads into the sash and brackets.

How is the correct CDP stroke selected?

CDP models are available with strokes extending up to 1500 mm depending on the selected configuration.

The required stroke depends on the hinge position, sash geometry, bracket location, required opening angle and available clearance. Chain pressure-load capacity must also be checked at the selected extension.

Can multiple CDP drives operate on one opening?

Yes, where the drives, controller and BSY+ configuration are designed for synchronised operation.

The window and bracket system must distribute the load correctly between the drives, and the complete drive set must be configured and commissioned together.

Can a CDP drive damage an inadequately designed window?

CDP can apply forces greater than many conventional window systems are designed to resist.

The window frame, sash, corner joints, brackets, fixings and reinforcement must therefore be checked for the full actuator loads. The drive should not be installed onto a window that has not been designed or verified for the required force.

When should a rack and pinion drive be considered instead?

Rack and pinion drives may be preferred where the opening geometry, external exposure, structural arrangement or required rigid push force is better suited to a rack actuator.
