D+H CDC chain drives are compact, low-noise electric window drives for compatible awning, casement, façade, roof and high-level windows.

The CDC range includes single-chain and twin-chain options with different power supplies, control technologies, strokes and force capacities. EBSA can assist with selecting the appropriate model based on the window type, opening geometry, required stroke, sash load, control system and project operating strategy.

CDC drives may be used in natural ventilation, general window automation and smoke control systems when coordinated with a compatible controller, suitable brackets, field cabling and project-specific commissioning.

Single-chain and twin-chain options

CDC-0252 models use a single drive chain and are suited to compatible windows within the available force and stroke range.

CDC-TW models provide two chain points from one drive body. They may suit wider sashes or window arrangements that benefit from two coordinated chain connections.

Where the application requires greater force, longer strokes or a different drive arrangement beyond the CDC and CDC-TW range, EBSA can review KA, CDM, CDP or rack and pinion drive options.

Drive and control system selection

The performance and functionality of a CDC drive installation depend on the complete system arrangement. The drive provides the mechanical opening and closing movement, while the controller determines how the window responds to switches, sensors, schedules, BMS commands or smoke control signals.

ACB-capable CDC models can provide digital communication, addressing and feedback when connected to a compatible ACB control system. Where an ACB-capable drive is connected to a conventional controller, the additional digital communication functions are not used.

CDC drive selection should be coordinated with:

  • Window type, sash size, weight and opening geometry.
  • Required opening distance and opening angle.
  • Stroke, force, voltage and current requirements.
  • Single-chain or twin-chain arrangement.
  • Number of drives per window and windows per control group.

Frequently asked questions

What replaces the D+H CDC 200/350 chain drive?

The D+H CDC 200/350 is a superseded chain drive. The direct current replacement is the CDC-0252-1-0350-R, selected with the appropriate control technology and bracket arrangement for the existing installation.

CDC 200/350 drives were also supplied in BSY+ synchronised configurations. Where two or more BSY+ drives operate together on one window in a master/slave set, all drives in that BSY+ set must be upgraded together. A new CDC drive should not be mixed into the existing synchronised set.

What replaces the D+H CDC 200/600 chain drive?

The D+H CDC 200/600 is a superseded chain drive. The direct current replacement is the CDC-0252-1-0600-R, selected with the appropriate control technology and bracket arrangement for the existing installation.

CDC 200/600 drives were also supplied in BSY+ synchronised configurations. Where two or more BSY+ drives operate together on one window in a master/slave set, all drives in that BSY+ set must be upgraded together. A new CDC drive should not be mixed into the existing synchronised set.

Can one failed CDC 200 BSY+ drive be replaced on its own?

Not where the drive forms part of a synchronised BSY+ master/slave set. All drives operating together on the same window must be upgraded as a complete set so the drives use compatible control technology and synchronisation.

EBSA can review the existing drive codes, number of drives, stroke, brackets, cabling and controller to determine the appropriate replacement arrangement.

What is the difference between CDC TMS+ and CDC ACB drives?

TMS+ allows two compatible 24 V DC drives to operate together as a synchronised pair. It is well suited to windows that require two chain drives but does not support larger multi-drive synchronised groups.

ACB models include BSY+ synchronisation and digital communication functions. This allows multiple compatible drives to be coordinated within a larger drive group when used with a suitable D+H ACB control system.

Should I use a 24 V DC or 230 V AC CDC chain drive?

For most projects requiring sensors, automatic controls, feedback or integration, a 24 V DC CDC drive is generally the more flexible option.

A 230 V AC CDC drive is typically better suited to straightforward local operation, such as control from a wall switch. Functions such as rain-sensor control, lockout timers, programmed operating sequences and broader system integration are more readily achieved through a compatible 24 V DC control system.

When is a CDC-TW twin-chain drive used?

The CDC-TW provides two chain connection points from one drive body and may suit wider windows requiring two opening points.

For many wider windows, EBSA generally prefers separate left-hand and right-hand CDC single-chain drives. This allows the chain positions to be located closer to the corners of the sash, which can provide better force distribution and window control.

The final arrangement depends on the window width, profile, sash construction and available fixing locations.

How is the correct CDC stroke selected?

The commonly used CDC stroke options are 350 mm and 600 mm. The actual operating stroke can be reduced to suit the required window opening.

Where opening restriction is required for protection from falling, the operating stroke may be limited to approximately 100 mm, subject to the window geometry and project requirements.

On TMS+ models, the operating stroke can be set on site by placing the drive into programming mode with the D+H programming magnet and moving the window to the required opening position. ACB drive stroke settings are programmed by EBSA using the appropriate configuration equipment.

Which brackets are required for a CDC chain drive?

The bracket arrangement is selected to suit the window profile and opening configuration. CDC installations use a sash bracket to connect the chain to the opening sash and a frame bracket to mount the drive to the window frame.

EBSA uses standard D+H bracket options where they suit the glazing suite. For commercial projects, brackets can also be selected or custom-made to provide a cleaner fit with the specific aluminium window system.

Customers do not need to select from the full bracket range themselves. EBSA can identify the appropriate bracket arrangement from the window drawings, profile details or site information.
